MCC Appoints John Pastore as President of Construction

Modern Continental Construction today announced that Senior Vice President John Pastore is assuming the position of President, the result of a reorganization of the company’s management structure that began earlier this year. Owner and co-founder Les Marino, who formerly held the title of President, is now Chief Executive Officer of the Modern Continental Companies, an entity that encompasses all of the firm’s interests. This includes all subsidiary construction offices as well as Boston Harbor Cruises, Marino Lookout Farm, The Marino Center, and Ristorante Marino.

John, who held positions as Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Vice President, and Senior Vice President during his ascent through the construction ranks, said, "The goal is to free Les up so that he can travel to different jobsites and offer his expertise and experience in the field, while I handle the day-to-day operations as President." For the most part his role will be to communicate with project owners and partners, handle business negotiations and conflict resolution, and oversee all general operations here in the Northeast.

A major factor in reassessing the management structure, John said, was to ensure that the company maintains its high standards and ideals as growth takes place. "We all believe in the company, and in what we’ve done. This is one of the strongest heavy civil construction companies in the country, and we’ll continue controlled growth and expansion in New England and other markets. With Les now available to visit other sites and help spread the Modern philosophy, it’s my responsibility to take care of things here at home."

Les, who remains busy as ever with a heavy travel schedule and many duties to occupy his time, said that once it was determined that a new President would be appointed, the decision about who would fill that role was going to be easy. "John has been with us for a long time, and he’s shown over the years that he’s a very special, exceptional individual. His knowledge and experience are tremendous assets, and he’s an outstanding manager. But it’s really John’s dedication and work ethic that have gotten him where he is today."

As for the future of Modern, John said confidently that things look as bright as ever. "We have a good base for growth in the Northeast, and in New York and California, so we should be able to build on the foundation that’s already in place," he said. "We know our primary markets, and we’re going to continue to look for opportunities that will strengthen Modern Continental.

"There’s a lot of work that lies ahead, but we’re ready for it and we’re enthusiastic about the challenges we’ll face."
