Modern's New York / Long Island Expressway Projects Underway
More work on the Long Island Expressway lies ahead for Modern's New York office, as two new contracts with the NYSDOT (New York State Department of Transportation) were won over the summer. At a combined value of $235 million, this new work has helped Modern establish a considerable presence in the Empire State.
The first job, which was won in June with a low bid of $128 million, calls for roadway widening, reconstruction of shoulders and median, drainage work, milling and resurfacing of the LIE mainline, reconstruction of a bridge, fence and rail work, electrical work, utility relocation and replacement, concrete repair, and landscaping. The work will take place between exits 32 and 40, and is scheduled to take 20 months to complete.
A second LIE job was won in August with a low bid of $107 million. The contract includes the replacement, rehabilitation, or removal of five bridges, as well as various highway improvements, between exits 37 and 40. Modern will be widening the roadway to provide for a new HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane, constructing new shoulders and median barriers, resurfacing east and westbound roadways, building new retaining walls and noise barriers, and putting in new drainage and electrical systems. The work also calls for the replacement of signs and fencing, as well as striping and landscaping work. Crews will begin this job in March, and it's scheduled to run for approximately 18 months.
