Modern Continental's Newest Big Dig Contract

As the light at the end of the Big Dig tunnel draws closer, Central Artery officials announced on January 8 that Modern Continental will be performing even more work on the Big Dig. Contract C09C2, which will connect the Mass Turnpike to the Expressway with a series of jug handles, was won on Modern’s low bid of $179.4 million, which was just $2 million under the project’s only other bidder.

Most of the work for this contract is located just south of Kneeland Street on the north end, and to the area around West Fourth Street on the south. Central Artery officials described the project, which interfaces with 10 other Big Dig jobs, as "The bow in the ribbon that ties I-90 and I-93 together." Work is slated to begin in February 2002 and wrap up sometime toward the end of 2004.
