Slurry Wall Work
Through its efforts in obtaining work on Boston's Central Artery/Tunnel Project, Modern has become the largest slurry wall contractor in the United States. State-of-the-art equipment designed to meet extremely confined work spaces, low headroom applications (less than 20 feet clearance), difficult and variable soil conditions, deep rock cuts (up to 50 feet of rock depth) and panel depths up to 150 feet, has been used by Modern in the challenge to accomplish this work.

From the fall of 1994 to the present, Modern has self-performed over 1.5 million sf of structural slurry wall. The total value of this work exceeds $200 million. Our equipment fleet includes: a hydraulic cutting machine, one of only eight of its kind in the world; several hydraulic clamshells used with specialized cranes working as a unit; and a number of standard slurry wall buckets, chisels and support equipment.
